Summertime
& The Knittin' is Easy!
|
History
is Being Made
I'm spending a good chunk of the summer getting
projects for History on Two Needles [HoTN] ready to go. I haven't
set a deadline for this book because the amount of time I can spend on
it is directly affected by my book, teaching and pattern sales
earnings.
Yes, lowering expectations every day - that's the subtitle of the
book...
Creating a book full of patterns is a fluid process, and I'm working as
quickly as I can, but I
want the book to be good - not rushed - so why ruin something by
pushing it?
To that end, most of my Summer's being spent here at home either
knitting, writing patterns or compiling hats for a
project I've taken on*
to pay the bills and fund the History on Two Needles book.
So far the projects for HoTN are practically knitting themselves!
If you're a member of Ravelry, you can visit my
projects page to
see all of them as works in progress (with the yarn and needle sizes
I'm using)
*It's quite a joy that the 1000
Fabulous Knit Hat book - ostensibly my 'day job' for the Summer, is
so enjoyable - but
it's a HUGE undertaking, and I've lost more than one night's sleep
worrying that I wouldn't GET a full thousand hats in time.
The deadline will allow me to sleep easier. Yay!
Traveling
in October
I'm going to be teaching at Rhinebeck, NY for the NY Sheep
& Wool Festival this Fall - my first time in about 5 years - and
I'm stoked!
For those of you who may not know, Rhinebeck is a MOST amazing show.
Not only are the vendors, classes, activities a delight, but
there are few things as beautiful as October in NY's Hudson Valley.
I've
set up a lovely Google calendar of
all my teaching dates
which you
can access by clicking
here. You can change the view
to
Agenda for a list of my classes, I think it's a bit easier to read than
the calendar grid.
As long as I don't teach the same classes the NY Sheep & Wool folks
are okay with me teaching in the area, so I'm setting up some classes
at Webs in Northampton, MA and also out at Knitters Knitch in Millers
Place, Long Island. I hope to add more, just not in the immediate area.
Further Classes?
I'm debating doing another road trip and driving out from Minnesota to
NY and back. This means I could stop in Chicago, Indianapolis,
Columbus, Pittsburgh - just about any
place along the way that will have me - and teach a class (or three...)
To that end, if you know of anyone who has a shop on the way from
MN to NYC and would like to host me, I'd love to set up a
traveling show of on-the-road engagements! (Bonus: the more gigs I set up on
the way, the cheaper the travel expenses are for each shop!)
Full info on my fees, etc., is online here (I'm pretty public about my fees -
nothing to hide here!)
Across The Pond
On August 25 I fly
to the UK for teaching engagements
all over Scotland, (almost)
Wales and England, ending at iKnit in
London. I'm incredibly excited
about this - I'll be taking Gerry with me for the first week, then he
returns home to be Mr. Mom while I continue for another week of
teaching.
Check the grid below for detailed info on any of my teaching
engagements, and - as always, feel free to email me for more
information on any of my classes or engagements.
HATS!
1000
Fabulous Knit (& Crochet!) Hats is a huge project - HUGE, I tells ya - and because the
job is so big and I sort of stepped into it in the middle, I'm getting
an extension by my publisher! YAY extension!
I can receive hats up
until Aug 15 - Woo hoo!
I
feel as giddy as I did back at Denison when I caged an extra few weeks
for a paper in English class - I'm crazed with joy - so much so that I
just took 2 hours to reorganize my yarns (which is what Virgos do when
they're giddy...)
I can receive hats up until Aug 15, although for my sanity the sooner
the better. So if you'd decided not to submit because you didn't
have enough time, please reconsider!
I'd love to be able to accept submissions via email, but there's no way
I can handle that much sorting and STILL get this done. The
uploading instructions are written out pretty clearly at 1000fabulousknithats.com,
and I'll be MORE than happy to answer any questions you have via email.
Thanks in advance for considering submitting - I appreciate it!
There are two main categories for submission: Original Hat
Designs and Non-Original (Inspired) Hats.
Original Hats are eligible for prizes, the top 3 designs will receive
$500, $300 and $200 respectively for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place.
Submitters will need to write patterns for the winning hats.
Non-Original Hats can be ANY hat that is hand knit or hand with with
crochet or embellishments. If you've made it, designed it, or
supplied yarn for it, we'd love to see an image of it!
For Designers and Yarn Companies / Yarn Shops, this can be a wonderful
way to grab some free and lovely PR. If we receive a sizeable
number of submissions in any one yarn or by any one designer or
sponsored by any one yarn shop, there will be a category just for that
entity, with full contact information in the book.
The submission process is VERY easy, click here
to read about it, and hats
images are already pouring in. Even with the 2 extensions I've
wrangled it's just too soon, but we'll do the best we can!
Get your hat images in by Aug 15,
to read how to submit &
upload your images!
