HAPPY
NEW YEAR! A couple of books, lots of new friends, great new partnerships and a move to Minnesota. It's a darned good thing we like the cold! Of course, this year "cold" could mean 50º in a sweater... I'll be flying to Chicago for a week of classes & visiting with new friends (and a few old ones...) and I am SO looking forward to it!The last time I taught at Wool & Co my classes were full, the room was full, my stomach was full (lots of little treats!) and my heart was very full. I am really looking forward to seeing the lovely little shop in Geneva, IL again, teaching a full plate of classes, and enjoying the beautiful little prairie town. Lesley & Neil make me feel so much at home (that is, if folks at my home spoke with British accents...) and - as much as I love my family - it's fun to get out and meet lots of knitters, too! But first - some WARMTH! I will not forswear Minnesota under the incredibly beautiful climate of San Diego... In a week I'll be flying out to San Diego for TNNA - my feet are already aching - and this time I hope I did the intelligent thing and sent out my teaching materials ahead of time. We'll see...Before I set a foot in the door at the San Diego Convention Center, I'll be teaching a knitting with wire class at The Grove, where I taught last year. It's a very nice feeling to fly into a city and visit a great book & yarn shop. I'm also looking forward to the new restaurant I've heard has opened nearby... The classes at TNNA are exciting because it's a different kind of student - usually a shop owner who is trying to soak up as much technique as they can so they can return to their shops and share it. This sharing aspect of knitting is one of the best things around - we're so compulsive in our need to show someone else how to accomplish something COOL! For that reason, TNNA is a demanding student population, but demanding just means I'm on my toes (which is partly why my feet hurt so much at these conferences...) And at last - MORE WIND! Rochester is just as windy as Chicago, they just don't let on... My husband lived in Rochester for a long time when he was just out of college. It was where he had his first 'real' job, and he will always have a deep love of the town. I enjoyed myself IMMENSELY when I was there last year - I loved the classes, LOVED the students, and had a blast with Lucinda at Wild Wools (wild, indeed!)I'll be teaching a few classes for Wild Wools, then will end with a presentation for the Rochester Knitting Guild. I hope if you live in the area I'll see you - if you don't get blown into Lake Erie... Getting (gulp) SERIOUS! Is it possible to finance a dream on a 15 year mortgage? This year TNNA is allowing teachers to have a small display where we can have literature and class information available for shop owners, so I put together a little card & poster. Being one's own PR person is - odd!As of February, when we'll be moving to Minnesota (yes, it's happening!) I'll be the sole income source for a bit (a long bit...?) so I'm trying to be on the ball about taking advantage of opportunities like these. I am so lucky to have the chance to explore a dream in a relatively safe way. However, Feb 14th - moving day - is going to be a heartbreaking day here at Chez Landy. As always, if there's a class you've been hankering to take, or one that you feel would be of general interest to knitters, let me know and it may be that I've been contemplating just such an adventure. Once we're settled there are some big plans in the works. We'd like to create a knit teaching DVD, and I have some oddball book ideas that may have a small audience - but one never knows what may catch fire! Look for updates on this in my next monthly newsletter! Looking forward to seeing you soon!
