Adding New Yarn & Striping Work in the main color until it is time
to begin stripe placement. Add the second color, knitting the first
stitch with the new color, the second stitch with the tail of the new color, and the third stitch and all subsequent stitches with the live end of the new color. Work across the row, turn and work back.
As you move up the rows, be sure to carry along the color you're
currently not using, twisting this unusued color around the live color
every other row so that it is stranded up along the edge. For thick yarns, when carrying multiple
colors or if the stripes are very wide, it makes more sense to break
off the color and weave in ends later. Break off the main color
yarn, leaving a 5" tail.
Add the new contrasting yarn as explained above, work stripe
until desired width is reached. Break off
the contrasting yarn about 5" from the
edge of the piece and add the color for
the next stripe.
