Cardigans

Twisted Float Shrug / Cardigan $7.00 US

Sized for EVERYONE! This is a UNIVERSAL pattern that works in EVERY yarn for EVERY body and ANY set of measurements! Unlike the original pattern which first appeared in Fall 2005 Vogue Knitting, this pattern allows you to use ANY yarn you want, and make ANY size you want!

Size To Fit ANY Bust Size

Skill Level Intermediate / Advanced

Notions Darning needle, stitch marker, 24″ circular needles (2) and dpn’s (optional) in a size that works well with your yarn.

Finished Meas
This pattern is not sized in a traditional, standard way, but you determine the sizing based on two simple measurements; the cross-front measurement (from armhole seam to armhole seam in when wearing a fitted T-shirt, just above the breasts) and the fingertip to fingertip measurement.

Because of the individualized nature of this pattern, and because any weight of yarn can be used when making this garment, determining yarn yardages can be difficult.  Use the amounts below as a guideline, but if this is the first time you are making the garment purchase extra yarn to be safe.

Yarn Requirements Amounts are based on worsted weight yarn. You may use any weight yarn to make this garment, but the yardages will change (more yardage is required for a thin yarn, less for bulky yarn.)

Rough Sizes: 32 (40, 48)” bust estimates

Yarn A:     1040 (1300, 1560) yds

Yarn B:      400 (500, 600) yds

Yarn C:      280 (350, 420) yds

The piece is worked from the center out, divided into 8 equal sections with markers. Armholes are placed by working all stitches in the first and fourth sections of the circle in waste yarn.  The stitch pattern is resumed until the total diameter of the piece is achieved, then sleeves are worked later when waste yarn is removed. This garment can be worn as a longer jacket with a narrow collar, or as a short shrug with a wider collar.

Gauge Any gauge, any yarn is fine.

Sizing This pattern is not sized, it is meant to be worked to YOUR individual size based on two simple measurements.

The Math Yes, you have to do a very small amount of math in this pattern.  By doing a bit of math, you will be able to tailor this pattern to fit ANY size body using ANY weight yarn!

Necessary Measurements – You will need TWO numbers to create your shrug:

A = Your Cross Front Measurement less 2” This is taken across the front, roughly from bra strap to bra strap, and generally runs between 12-16” / 30-40 cm.

B = Your Fingertip to Fingertip Measurement divided by 1.75.  It is taken with arms extended and is generally around the person’s height.

In any pattern figuring yardages is a bit of a crap shoot.  Since this pattern is individually sized, yardages may differ.  Yardages are based on S (M, L, XL) sizing, for fingering wt yarn, extrapolate up or down based on your size. In general you’ll need 1 part each Yellow & Pink, 2 parts Green and 3 parts Red.
